Qiang Luo - Coming Back
Creative Process
This is a story about self-reflection, pain, hope, conflict, and paradox.
People want to return to normal life, in which international students can go back to school instead of taking online classes without a sense of experience, people can go to the theatre, watch a show, and hug their friends, etc. But, we are waiting, and we are looking forward to normal life coming back.
The main part and steps of this dance work are the clothes of Chinese classical dance and steps of contemporary movement, as well as self-conflicting elements of ballet technology to express the dancers' psychological state.
The epidemic has totally changed our life. As a folk dance performer, I often dance on the stage wearing the Han and Tang Dynasty costumes. However, right now I must wear a mask going outside and only dance at home. Even though the show must go on, in today's society, no one can guarantee what tomorrow will look like. Therefore, while we should keep safe, we should also pay attention to self-reflection and deep thinking. In the future, in the post-pandemic era, we need to think about how people in all industries should adapt.
Sometimes, dancers are expressing character’s stories on the stage. But this time, I want to be myself, which to wear classical Chinese clothes and mix multiple dance steps. That is one way to express diversity, as well as asking, people and performers to think in-depth about how we stay true to ourselves when we express works of art. These topics and questions inspire me and stimulate me to create my movements.
Thoughts will bring me the strongest reaction to my body, so, in the last part of my dance work, I chose to use a soaring leap and lower leg split and side turn with a fan to express expectations from my strong inner heart.
Music Create Process
For the music created, I mixed and cut two pieces of music.
