This year we have so many amazing opportunities to help build and expand the Hamilton and Burlington dance community. While we have the vim, vigour and drive to make it happen, we need help from our community to round up the funds necessary to bring them all to life.

Past board member, Shannon Kitchings interviews Lisa Emmons for this Kickstarter, hear what she has to say.

Here are some recent, incredible updates from our team!

  • Mayumi Lashbrook, Co-Artistic Director, was just invited to attend and perform at L’Air Arts Residency in France in January 2020. Help us get Mayumi to Paris! We know the ripple effects will be paramount to our growth! We cannot wait to learn from her upon her return and grow the contacts to the arts scene in Paris.

  • We have been invited to the south of Spain to teach at Nicole Catenazzi's Be Moved Yoga Retreat May 16-21, 2020.

  • Peggy Baker has given us a residency and agreed to be our Choreographic Mentor for a new work to be created in the spring of 2020.

  • In order to help us manage all of these wonderful opportunities we have recently brought on a producer - Mikaela Demers, a recent graduate of Generator’s Artist Producer Training Program (4th Generation, 2019), who has worked in producing roles with Luminato (Toronto) and Branch Collective (Sudbury). She is also a brilliant choreographer and performer. Her perspective and know how will be critical to sustaining this packed season, and we need funds to support her work with us!

The list literally goes on. We’re so honoured to have these opportunities, and that each year we are invited to perform at many community art events and fundraisers. We are committed to connection, honing our craft and developing our company. The costs for all these opportunities quickly add up and while we are writing municipal, provincial and federal grants, but they are not enough. We need the help of our community. Below you'll find a summary of more amazing things we have in store, and where your help will go!

Prospects is now in its second season, and its growing into more than we could have hoped! This recurring event brings out local art patrons to discover new dancers, choreographers, artists and community members, and the performances create incredible discussions of ideas, sentiments and friendships. Shannon and Lisa discuss Prospects.

Our ultimate goal is to grow and strengthen our local arts community, and ensure patrons and artists have local opportunities to experience and express. We'd like to ensure we can continue to provide paid work for our local Burlington artists and choreographers. For Prospects, we're seeking funds that will help us ensure we can pay a local, Burlington choreographer for each edition of Prospects for the 2019/2020 season rates that align with the Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists. Our next edition takes place October 19, 2019. Click here to learn more: http://aeriskorper.com/an-evening-of-dance-and-discussion

In Hamilton and Burlington, there are not a lot of practicing contemporary dancers, and we want to help change that. Our workshops attract an incredible and diverse group of local artists, who have the desire and potential to enrich our arts community through dance but don't have the funds necessary to further develop their practice. Shannon and Lisa discuss the scholarship. Our intention is to build a scholarship fund for our summer intensive of 2020, based on the excellent response and registration of 2019! Collapsing The Night will be a first-of-its-kind immersive dance experience in Hamilton, that will take place in the Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse. We're so excited to be able to create this production in Hamilton with help from the City of Hamilton Enrichment Fund. This has really turned into a community effort with all the involvement and donated time we've received from numerous local artists. Shannon and Lisa talk about CTN and the collaborators. The grant only pays for a fraction of the cost, and our priority is to pay the artists first, however in order to properly equip and execute the event, we still need a few more personnel and supplies so we are hoping to call on our community for support.
